1.5kg bag of premium European cherry wood chips. 2-4cm size, ideal for adding to coals in small doses every 30-40 minutes during a smoke. Also works wonderfully in pellet grills or gas smoke boxes.

Essentials to get started

FAQ

  • How many smoking hours do the 1.5kg of chips give?

Cherry chips burn faster than chunks: a generous handful (50g) gives 30-40 minutes of active smoke. A 3-hour chicken smoke needs 4-5 handfuls, so a 1.5kg bag covers 6-8 medium sessions. For weekly long smokes, step up to chunks (Axtschlag pecan or cherry in chunk form).

  • What does cherry add? Is it really sweet?

Subtle fruity-sweet, yes — and it tints the bark a distinctive mahogany hue (the rust-red smoke ring on ribs and brisket). It is not sugar-sweet like Polish apple; it has more "cherry-jam" body. The most versatile wood in the catalog: works with pork, poultry, salmon, ribs and homemade sausage.

  • Does it work for all kamados or only XL?

Universal — chip format (2-4cm) drops cleanly into any kamado, Mini to Big Joe XL. In fact, small kamados prefer chips over large chunks because they offer finer control over smoke intensity. Also compatible with pellet grills (Traeger, Pit Boss pellet) and gas-grill smoke boxes.

  • Can I mix cherry with another wood like apple or hickory?

Yes, and we recommend it. Cherry blends beautifully with pecan (60/40 cherry/pecan is the canonical brisket ratio — sweetness plus BBQ body) and with apple (50/50 for poultry — dual fruit sweetness). Skip mixing with mesquite, too dominant. Start with one cherry chunk plus one pecan chunk and adjust from there.
