A kamado cover is a waterproof shell that protects the ceramic, gasket, hinges and top vent from rain, sun and dust when you're not cooking. It should fit your model's diameter and height, let moisture escape so condensation doesn't build up, and fasten securely so the wind can't carry it off.
Fit is the first criterion: a loose cover catches the wind like a sail, and one that's too tight won't reach down to the stand. Official covers are the safe bet, such as Kamado Joe's Classic Joe cover or Big Joe cover. If your kamado is another brand, choose a universal cover by size: the Classic Accessories Veranda is designed for 21-inch kamados, the Onlyfire universal measures 76 cm and the Coverstore Premium XL covers the larger formats. The second criterion is the bottom fastening, a drawcord or buckles, so it stays put on windy days.
Our Big Green Egg Large lives outdoors all year in Torrevieja, with humidity and salt air, and a cover is the simplest way to extend the life of the metal parts. One tip: only put it on once the ceramic is cold, and take it off after a few rainy days so it can air out. We don't take money for reviews and affiliate links are marked.
