Origins

Grill Republic is a German brand founded in 2015, focused on barbecue accessories and fuels sold widely across Europe, mainly through Amazon. Its range centres on everyday grilling essentials: smoking chunks and chips, griddle plates and tools, with a tidy line-up built around the practical needs of the home cook.

What it does well

We list it for its premium cherry wood chips (1.5 kg), a fruitwood that gives a mild, faintly sweet smoke that flatters poultry, pork and cheeses. The kilo-and-a-half bag is easy to portion and works well when you want to perfume food without overwhelming it. Next to bolder woods like hickory or mesquite, cherry is a forgiving, versatile choice for anyone just getting into smoking.

Our take

At mikamado we selected Grill Republic as a sound source of smoking accessories, not as a grill maker. This is auxiliary fuel: on our Big Green Egg Large, a handful of soaked cherry chips or chunks over the coals is enough to lend character to a cook, and that is exactly the role it plays here. In honesty, it is a consumable whose quality varies with the batch and the drying of the wood; it won't define your kit, but it will enrich your results. For anyone who already owns a grill or kamado and wants to experiment with fruitwoods, it's a reasonable place to start.
