Quick answer
Worth it if you own a Big Joe and make pizza often: it turns its 61 cm into a front-loading oven, stone below and dome fixed, and you work the peel without opening the lid. It is expensive for an aluminium wedge with a stone, is declared for no other kamado, and the listing does not make clear whether the deflectors come in the box.
A cast aluminium wedge that holds the Big Joe's dome ajar and leaves a front opening for loading and turning pizzas without lifting the lid. Ceramic surface, stated maximum 370 °C and about 10.6 kg. Big Joe I, II and III only.
The DoJoe BJ-DJ is the cast aluminium wedge Kamado Joe uses to turn its Big Joe into a front-loading pizza oven. It sits on the base of the kamado, the dome rests ajar on top of it, and at the front you get a stable opening for sliding pizzas in and out without lifting the lid. The listing declares it compatible with the Big Joe I, II and III, gives approximate dimensions of 79.5 x 71 x 14 cm, a weight of 23.45 pounds (roughly 10.6 kg converted) and a maximum temperature of 370 °C. Stated material: cast aluminium and ceramic. Made in China, hand wash.
The logic is that of a Neapolitan oven. On a normal kamado, every time you open the dome to turn a pizza you release the heat stored in the vault and break the balance between the stone and the air. With the DoJoe the dome does not move: heat rises behind the stone, bounces off the lid and comes down onto the pizza while you work through the opening, with a long-handled peel and a glove, because that gap throws radiant heat at vault temperature. Hence the [deflectors](/glosario#deflector) in the title: without them the stone takes direct flame and the base burns before the cheese melts. The [guide to pizza on a kamado](/guias/como-hacer-pizza-en-kamado) explains that mechanism, and the [pizza napoletana recipe](/recetas/pizza-napoletana-kamado) is the use this accessory is aimed at. The 370 °C the manufacturer declares is the accessory's maximum, not a recommendation, and it sits below a classic Neapolitan bake: expect bakes of a few minutes, and do not push the kamado past that ceiling.
The fit is exclusive. The DoJoe is made for the 61 cm grate and the dome of the [Big Joe](/kamados/kamado-joe-big-joe-iii). It does not go on a Classic Joe (46 cm) or a Joe Jr: the listing marks the size as "Big" and declares the Big Joe only. Nor should you hang it on a Big Green Egg XL just because that also measures 61 cm: the wedge is shaped to the Big Joe's dome rim and opening, and the listing declares no other fit. If your large kamado is another brand, measure before paying.
The drawbacks are almost all in the listing itself. First: the title announces a ceramic stone and deflectors, but the contents line says "includes DoJoe insert and ceramic cooking surface"; the deflectors are not on the list of what is included, so confirm the box or plan on using your Big Joe's half-moon deflectors. Second: the details table gives 71 x 79.5 x 71 cm, against the bullet's 14 cm thickness; the bullet's figure is the believable one for a wedge. Third: roughly 10.6 kg that you move by hand and cold. Fourth: when we read the listing there was a single unit left, with more on the way according to Amazon, and direct purchase was not available. And fifth: it is expensive for what it is, an aluminium wedge with a stone; in its favour, it does what a loose stone cannot: keep the dome fixed while you work.
The listing totals 731 ratings with an average of 4.6 out of 5 and sits at number 45 in pizza stones for barbecues and smokers on Amazon.es. We have not tested it: everything here comes from the listing and the physics of a wood-fired oven. Verdict: if your kamado is a Big Joe and pizza is a serious part of how you use it, this is the missing piece; if you make pizza three times a year, a stone on the deflectors saves you a lot of money.
The piece Kamado Joe uses to turn a Big Joe into a front-loading pizza oven, well resolved on paper and expensive for what it is. Big Joe only; check the box for whether the deflectors are in it.
Editorial rating from spec sheet, measurements and kamado fit · not a hands-on test
Pros
- Front opening, dome fixed: turn and pull the pizza with a peel without lifting the lid
- Compatible with all three Big Joe generations (I, II and III) according to the listing
- Cast aluminium with a ceramic cooking surface and a stated maximum of 370 °C
- 4.6 out of 5 (731 ratings) and number 45 in pizza stones for barbecues and smokers
Cons
- The title announces deflectors, but the contents line names only the insert and the stone
- Big Joe only: no use on a Classic Joe or Joe Jr, and no Big Green Egg XL fit declared
- Expensive for an aluminium wedge with a stone; roughly 10.6 kg to move by hand and cold
Who it's for
For anyone with a Big Joe I, II or III who makes pizza often: you gain control of the bake without opening the dome, and a run of several pizzas in a row without losing the heat in the vault.
Not for
Classic Joe or Joe Jr: it will not seat. Big Green Egg or another brand: the listing declares no fit, so measure first. If you make pizza now and then, a stone on the deflectors does it for far less.

Goes well with

Kamado Joe Wooden Pizza Peel
The DoJoe makes sense with a peel that goes in and out through the front opening without opening the dome. Kamado Joe's wooden peel is the in-house partner: dough releases better from wood than from metal at the moment of loading. Check the blade width against the wedge's opening before buying. For turning the pizza halfway through, a perforated aluminium peel also does the job.

Ooni Digital Infrared Pizza Oven Thermometer
The Big Joe's lid thermometer measures the air in the vault, not the stone, and with the DoJoe the gap between the two is what decides whether the base comes out crisp or burnt. An infrared thermometer aimed at the stone through the front opening tells you when to load the first pizza and how long to wait between one and the next for the ceramic to recover.

Kamado Joe Big Block XL lump charcoal 9.1 kg
A pizza session on a Big Joe demands a well-loaded charcoal chamber and a lively fire for an hour or two. Big Block XL is the brand's own large-lump charcoal: fat lumps that hold up through the climb in temperature without crumbling into fine ash, which is exactly what you do not want under a pizza stone.

FAQ
Does the DoJoe work on a Classic Joe or a Big Green Egg Large?
No. This reference, BJ-DJ, is declared for the Big Joe I, II and III only, Kamado Joe's 61 cm grate. A Classic Joe or a Big Green Egg Large measures 46 cm and the wedge does not seat. Nor would we assume it fits a Big Green Egg XL: it shares the 61 cm, but the DoJoe is shaped to the Big Joe's dome rim and opening, and the listing declares no other fit. If you have a Classic, this listing is not for you: it declares the Big Joe only.
What do I gain over putting a pizza stone on the Big Joe's deflectors?
You gain a fixed dome. With a stone on the half-moon deflectors compatible with the Big Joe you can make pizza, but every time you open the lid to turn it the heat in the vault escapes and the stone and the air fall out of balance. The DoJoe leaves a front opening you work through with the peel while the lid stays put, and that difference grows with every pizza you bake in a row. For a single pizza, the difference is smaller than the price.
Are the deflectors included in the box?
The listing does not make it clear, which is why we flag it as a drawback. The title speaks of a ceramic stone and heat deflectors, and one bullet says the structure, the deflectors and the stone spread the heat, but the contents line literally says it includes the DoJoe insert and the ceramic cooking surface, with no mention of deflectors. If you already have your Big Joe's half-moon deflectors, that doubt does not affect you; if not, confirm with the seller before buying.
How do I clean the DoJoe and its stone?
The listing only says hand wash. For the cast aluminium, water, mild soap and drying; no dishwasher. The ceramic surface is treated like any pizza stone: let it cool inside the kamado, scrape off anything stuck while dry, and do not wet it with soap, because porous ceramic absorbs it and gives it back on the next pizza. Dark stains are normal and do not affect the result. At roughly 10.6 kg, always move it cold and with both hands.
