Quick answer

It can be worth it if you want a pellet pizza oven without paying for an Ooni. The listing promises 475 °C, an 18-20 minute warm-up and pizza in 60-90 seconds, and it holds 4.5 out of 5 from 2,519 reviews. But the brand has no verifiable history, we have not tested it and the listing contradicts itself on size.

A 12-inch pellet oven with a 30.5 cm stone, 11.3 kg and folding legs. It promises 475 °C and pizza in 60-90 seconds; those are the seller's figures and we have not tested it.

The BIG HORN OUTDOORS SRPG18003B is a freestanding, portable pizza oven that burns wood pellets. The Amazon.es listing describes a 12-inch oven with a square baking stone of 30.5 × 30.5 cm, a coated stainless steel shell and folding legs that go on without tools. It weighs 11.3 kg. The manufacturer named is Shinerich Industrial Ltd and the brand appears as "BIG HORN".

What it promises is typical for the category: ready in 18-20 minutes, up to 475 °C and pizza in 60-90 seconds. These are the seller's figures. We have not checked them ourselves, so take them for what they are: the seller's promise. For a Neapolitan pizza the range is the expected one, a very hot oven and a short bake. The listing adds that the heating method is radiant and that the timer is "partially available", without saying what that means. It also sells the oven as "3 in 1", but gas and electric need BIG HORN accessories bought separately: out of the box, it is a pellet oven.

On a kamado website this has to be said plainly: this is not a kamado accessory, it is a different appliance. If you already own a kamado you can bake pizza inside it with a stone, and the guide to pizza in a kamado and the Margherita pizza recipe explain how. This oven only makes sense if you want a small chamber dedicated to pizza, without tying up the kamado. On paper it is the same proposition as the catalogue's Ooni Fyra 12: pellets, 12 inches, portable. With the listing's data there is no way to know how one performs against the other; the difference that does show is that Ooni has a brand with a history and a range of accessories behind it.

The drawbacks are in the listing itself. The measurements do not agree: one block gives 68.83 × 36.07 × 71.12 cm, another 54.8 × 36 × 73.7 cm, and the bullets say 21.6 × 14 × 28 inches, which is about 55 × 36 × 71 cm. Capacity is given as "12 cubic inches", a figure that cannot belong to an oven. Included components says "No.", although the title mentions a baking stone. No warranty, website or country of origin is published for the brand. The listing also calls it suitable for indoor use; we would not use it indoors, because burning pellets produces smoke and carbon monoxide.

On pizza size: the stone is a 30.5 cm square, so forget large pizzas; a 30 cm one leaves very little room to turn it, and the listing itself asks you to turn it often. An oven running at several hundred degrees can burn on the outside: wear oven gloves when turning pizzas and topping up pellets. The listing mentions no peel or thermometer among the contents.

Verdict: an inexpensive pellet oven with very good ratings on Amazon.es and a careless listing; buy with a cool head and keep the receipt, because we know nothing about its warranty.

Verdict

A cheap, well-rated 12-inch pellet oven with a careless listing and a brand without a verifiable history. Reasonable if you accept the risk; it does not replace a kamado.

6.9/10

Editorial rating from spec sheet, measurements and kamado fit · not a hands-on test

Pros

  • 12-inch pellet oven with a square 30.5 × 30.5 cm stone
  • Promises 475 °C, 18-20 min warm-up and pizza in 60-90 s (seller's figures)
  • 11.3 kg and folding legs, no tools to assemble: easy to move and store
  • 4.5 out of 5 from 2,519 Amazon.es reviews and rank 24 among outdoor pizza ovens

Cons

  • Sizes in the listing disagree: 68.83 or 54.8 cm long, and capacity in cubic inches
  • The 475 °C and the timings are the seller's figures; we have not tested it
  • No warranty or brand website in the listing, and no country of origin for the brand

For you if…

For kamado owners who want a dedicated 30 cm pizza oven and prefer to spend little before moving up to an Ooni.

Not for you if…

If you want a clear warranty, brand support or official accessories, look at an Ooni. And if you make pizza once a month, your kamado stone is enough.

Frequently asked questions

  • Is it the same as the Ooni Fyra 12?

On paper it is the same kind of product: a portable pellet pizza oven for 12-inch pizzas. From the listing's data we cannot say whether it performs like the Ooni Fyra 12: we have not tested it. The other 12-inch oven in this batch is the Ninja Woodfire, but there the heat is electric; here it is a pellet fire. What does show is the difference in backing. Ooni is a brand with a country, a history and its own accessories; here there is a manufacturer, Shinerich Industrial Ltd, and a brand whose website and warranty we do not know.

  • Does it use pellets as fuel or only for smoke?

As fuel: per the listing, pellets are the oven's heat source and feed a 12-inch chamber that promises 475 °C. In a kamado the fire (charcoal) heats the whole chamber and the pizza bakes on a stone; here the pellets heat the oven directly, and the appliance does not depend on any kamado. That is the difference with the Ninja Woodfire, whose heat is electric and which uses pellets only for smoke flavour. If you want to practise pizza in the kamado, the kamado pizza guide and the Margherita recipe explain how; this oven is a separate purchase, not an accessory.

  • What size of pizza does it take?

The stone is square, 30.5 × 30.5 cm, and the listing calls it a 12-inch oven. That means personal-size Neapolitan pizzas of about 30 cm at most, preferably a little less so you can turn them without catching the edges. The listing itself recommends turning the pizza often so it cooks evenly. If you are feeding four, bake in batches: about 60-90 seconds each according to the seller, plus time to unload one and load the next.

  • Can it be used indoors?

The listing says it is suitable for indoor or outdoor use, in rain or sun, all year. With pellets we do not recommend it in enclosed spaces: burning wood produces smoke and carbon monoxide, and the listing describes no flue or extraction. Use it on a ventilated terrace or patio, away from walls and awnings, and check your building's rules first. We have not tested it, so we cannot say how much smoke it gives off in normal use or how it behaves in wind.
