Quick answer

Yes, if you want a perforated peel that stores in little space. Aluminium head of 30.5 × 35.5 cm, folding wooden handle and 61 cm unfolded: it takes pizzas of about 28 cm (estimate) in a Large or a Classic. We have not tried it, and the listing never mentions kamados.

Perforated aluminium, 30.5 × 35.5 cm, with a 25.4 cm folding wooden handle: 61 cm unfolded, compact to store. A loading peel for the kamado stone, rated on the listing alone.

The Chef Pomodoro CP-AlumPP is a rectangular pizza peel in perforated aluminium with a folding wooden handle. The listing gives the head as 30.5 cm wide by 35.5 cm long (the title says 35.6, a tenth of a centimetre apart) and the handle as 25.4 cm; unfolded it measures 61 cm overall, which matches the sum of the two figures. According to the listing it withstands up to 572 °F, about 300 °C, weighs 1.6 lb (about 0.73 kg, our conversion) and is hand wash only.

On a kamado it is a loading peel, not a cooking tool. You stretch the pizza over flour or semolina, slide it onto the [pizza stone](/glosario#pizza-stone) and, once it is done, lift it off. The holes are there, says the listing, to let surplus flour fall away from the underside of the dough. That makes physical sense: flour left on a very hot stone burns, turns bitter and smokes. That it does this better than a plain peel is something we have not verified. The [guide to pizza on a kamado](/guias/como-hacer-pizza-en-kamado) and the [Neapolitan pizza recipe](/recetas/pizza-napoletana-kamado) cover the rest of the process.

On fit, the listing says 'compatible with several pizza ovens and barbecue accessories' and names no kamado, so we reason from dimensions. At 30.5 cm wide it passes with room to spare through the opening of a Large or a Classic (46 cm grate) and of an XL or a Big Joe (61 cm). In a MiniMax or a Joe Jr (33 cm) the head takes up almost the full width of the grate: it works, but with no margin for error, and you should check your diameter before buying. With the head inside, the 25.4 cm handle leaves your hand close to the opening, not much distance for an oven this hot, so wear a glove. Folded, the peel comes to a little over 35 cm (our estimate) and fits on a hook beside the kamado or in a drawer.

The drawbacks are several. The listing contradicts itself: 35.5 cm long in the text and 35.6 in the title; item dimensions of 35.6 × 35.6 × 2.5 cm that would describe a square, although the shape is given as rectangular; and 'non-stick' among the features without any text mentioning a coating. It also does not publish the thickness of the aluminium or what the handle hinge is like, which is the part that works hardest on a folding peel. The 572 °F figure does not separate the head from the wooden handle, so treat it as a loading peel that goes in and out, not something to leave inside.

Chef Pomodoro is a marketplace brand with no verifiable public history, and the listing says nothing about its country. Verdict: a reasonable perforated peel on paper, 4.6 out of 5 across 407 ratings on Amazon.es, which wins on the folding handle. Inspect the hinge as soon as it arrives.

Editor's verdict

A sound perforated peel on paper, with the folding handle as its argument. Mismatched listing data: buy it for the handle, and inspect the hinge.

FAQ

  • Will it fit through the opening of my kamado?

The head is 30.5 cm wide, so it passes with room to spare through a Large or a Classic (46 cm grate) and through an XL or a Big Joe (61 cm). In a MiniMax or a Joe Jr, with a 33 cm grate, it takes up almost the whole width: it works with pizzas a little smaller than the head, but the margin is minimal. The listing names no kamado, only pizza ovens and barbecues in general, so check your diameter before ordering.

  • What does it offer over other perforated peels in the catalogue?

Against the HOT! Kitchenware birch peel, multilayer wood of 29 × 41.5 cm, this one is perforated aluminium with a 25.4 cm folding handle and a declared 300 °C against the birch one's 230 °C. The Ooni 12-inch perforated peel has the same idea, loading with holes, and its title does not highlight a folding handle. We have not tried any, so this is a listing comparison: if you do not mind how you store it, folding adds nothing.

  • Does it withstand kamado heat at pizza temperature?

The listing gives a maximum of 572 °F, about 300 °C, and marks it oven safe, without separating the head from the wooden handle. A kamado at pizza temperature can pass that figure at the stone and at the opening. So use it only for loading and unloading, never leave it inside or resting on the hot grate, and keep the handle out of the kamado opening.

  • How do I clean it?

By hand: the listing says hand wash and not dishwasher safe. That is logical for a peel with a wooden handle and a hinge, where hot water and strong detergent do no favours. Wipe off dry flour with a cloth or brush, wash with water and mild soap, and dry the hinge well before folding and storing it. The listing gives no further instructions, so there is no special wood care we can cite.
