Quick answer
Yes, the Kamado Joe Joe Jr 13.5" is the most honest way to fit a real kamado into a flat or a camper van. It carries the same dense ceramic and temperature control as its bigger siblings, but in a 34 cm diameter and just 31 kg: it smokes ribs at 110 °C and is no toy. It's ideal for couples, small terraces, beach houses or as a second kamado for pizza. If you regularly cook for more than four, the 34 cm grate will feel tight.
Same dense ceramic, same temperature control, a tenth of the footprint. The Joe Jr is the kamado for couples, small flats and campervan trips. Not a toy: smokes ribs at 110 °C just like its bigger siblings.
The most honest way to fit a real kamado into a flat or a campervan.
Pros
- Same Kamado Joe ceramic as the bigger models — real heat retention
- Only 31 kg, two-handed carry
- Hits target temp in 15-20 min (a Classic III takes 30-40)
- Lifetime ceramic warranty, same as the bigger siblings
- Tabletop foot and side handle factory-fitted
Cons
- 34 cm grate — caps you at 4 diners
- No SlōRoller or Divide & Conquer: if you want multi-tier, look elsewhere
- No cart — needs a heat-resistant surface to sit on
For you if…
If you live in a flat with a small terrace, take your grill to a beach house, or want a second kamado to bake pizza while the Classic handles the brisket.
Not for you if…
If you regularly cook for more than 4 — the 34 cm grate is too small for a full rib rack or a paella pan.

FAQ
Will it fit on a flat balcony?
Yes, as long as the surface is heat-resistant and there are 50 cm clear above the dome. The Joe Jr is 47 cm wide with handles and weighs 31 kg, so the table or counter has to take that load. Important: the outer base hits 60-70 °C on long cooks — do not set it directly on treated wood or resin.
Is it a real kamado or a toy?
A real kamado. It uses the same dense Kamado Joe ceramic as the Classic III, just in a 34 cm format. It smokes ribs at 110 °C for 6 hours just like its big brother, hits 350 °C for pizza, and the lifetime ceramic warranty is identical. The difference is not quality — it is capacity: 4 diners max, no Divide & Conquer, no SlōRoller.
Do I need to buy a stand separately?
The Joe Jr ships with a factory tabletop stand — enough to sit it on a counter or sturdy table. If you want it on legs and wheels like a Classic, you need Kamado Joe's optional stand (not included). For campervan or beach-house use, the stock stand is plenty.
How long until it hits 250 °C for pizza?
Fifteen to twenty minutes from lighting. The ceramic is the same as a Classic III, but there is a third of the volume to heat — that halves the time. For pizza at 350 °C count 25-30 minutes with the deflector removed. That is the real edge of a small kamado: light at 7:30 pm and you are eating by 8:15, no marathon prep.
Will it survive winter outside, on the windy coast?
Kamado Joe's dense ceramic shrugs off frost and salt with no structural damage — the risk is cosmetic: the outer enamel stains in salt-laden easterly wind. Use a waterproof cover when you are not cooking and wipe it down with white vinegar once a month. After 4 years in Torrevieja our Classic's enamel is intact following that routine — the Joe Jr is the same ceramic, same care.
