The trick to telling them apart isn't diameter or peak temperature — all of them hit 400 °C on paper — but three specific things: ceramic density (kg per litre of chamber), fibre gasket quality and accessory availability on a five-year horizon.
A serious kamado weighs between 70 and 170 kg because dense ceramic holds heat for 18 hours on a single charcoal load. A 40-50 kg light unit cools down in 4-5 hours and forces a reload, and the gasket — the fibre seal between lid and body — degrades in one or two summers. Cheap is expensive from year three onwards.

How much charcoal does a kamado burn in a normal session?
Much less than you'd think. A 4-hour session at 220 °C burns 1.5-2 kg of quality charcoal (white quebracho or Argentine). A long smoking session at 110 °C for 12-14 hours burns 4-5 kg. The trick is closing the vents tight at the end to snuff the coals without consuming them: what's left over fuels the next cook.
