Quick answer

A cheap way to renew a kamado gasket, but bought blind: the listing states no fit, publishes no maximum temperature and does not say how many rolls come in the box. Measure your rim, count the rolls, and do not expect pizza at 400 °C to spare it. If you accept that, it is a reasonable gamble.

Black self-adhesive tape, 7.5 ft (2.29 m) long and 1/8 inch thick. The listing does not say which kamado it fits, its maximum temperature, or how many rolls come in the box: check all three before ordering.

The Boao HT002 is a black, self-adhesive gasket tape. The listing gives 7.5 ft in length (2.29 m) and 1/8 inch in thickness (0.32 cm); the package measures 21 x 10.6 x 1.7 cm and weighs 60 g. Amazon's title is a muddle: it speaks of "2,0,5 Pulgadas de Ancho" (inches wide), which cannot be read as a measurement. The table gives the material as "poliacrilonitrilo butadieno estireno" (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene), the name of a plastic that sits oddly with a gasket tape, and we cannot say what it is really made of. The bullet points are empty. Everything below comes from the table, the photos and the geometry of a kamado, not from any test of ours.

What it is for: the [gasket](/glosario#felt-gasket) is the strip that seals the rim between base and dome. When the original felt burns, flattens or peels away, air gets in where it should not and temperature control suffers. [Our guide to changing the gasket](/guias/cambiar-junta-kamado) walks through the whole job; this tape would be the cheap replacement material. What the listing does not say is that it is made for a kamado: it declares no fit with any model and calls it a "barbecue gasket" and a "grill smoker tape". So the measuring is down to you.

The arithmetic matters. The rim of a Large, with a 46 cm grate, is roughly 1.5 m in circumference: that is our own estimate from geometry, not a figure from the listing. If the 2.29 m is the total in the package, it covers one surface with room to spare; if it is per roll and two come in the box, there is enough for base and dome. The listing does not settle it: the table speaks of 4 units, and the photos seem to show two rolls half an inch (1.27 cm) wide, but neither confirms the other. Check how many rolls arrive and measure your rim before paying, and compare the width with that of your current gasket.

The drawbacks, in order of importance. First: no maximum temperature is stated. A kamado closes with the ceramic hot for hours, and the tape and above all the adhesive are the first things to suffer; the listing says nothing about either. At [Neapolitan pizza](/recetas/pizza-napoletana-kamado) temperatures, close to 400 °C in a kamado, any gasket is punished, this one included. Second: the listing is poor and leaves the basics unsaid, as seen above. What it does have is a rating: 4.4 out of 5 from 1,906 ratings, but it cannot tell someone sticking it on a kamado from someone using it on a sheet-steel barbecue.

The catalogue already holds another route, the [BBQ Future glass-fibre mesh gasket kit](/accesorios/bbq-future-junta-malla-fibra-vidrio-universal): a different material and a good deal dearer. The Boao is the cheap, adhesive gamble; the other is a kit presented as universal for kamados. Choose by how much risk you will take.

Verdict: a cheap, reasonable replacement for a burnt gasket, provided you measure first, count the rolls and accept that we do not know how much heat it takes.

Editor's verdict

A cheap, reasonable replacement for burnt felt, but bought blind: no maximum temperature, no stated fit. Measure your rim and count the rolls before paying.

6.5/10

Editorial rating from spec sheet, measurements and kamado fit · not a hands-on test

Pros

  • 2.29 m (7.5 ft) of black tape, 1/8 inch (0.32 cm) thick, per the listing
  • Self-adhesive: goes onto the rim with no separate glue to buy
  • Rated 4.4 out of 5 from 1,906 reviews on Amazon.es
  • Cheap for what it is: renews the gasket without buying a full kit

Cons

  • No maximum temperature stated, and no stated fit with any kamado
  • The listing does not say how many rolls come, or if 2.29 m is per roll
  • Poor listing: no bullets, unreadable width in the title, odd material

Who it's for

For anyone who knows their gasket is burnt, has measured the rim, and wants a cheap, unpretentious replacement.

Not for

If you cook pizza at 400 °C often, or want a gasket with a stated maximum temperature, look for a kit that publishes one. And if you will not measure, do not buy it.

FAQ

  • Will it fit my kamado?

The listing declares no fit with any kamado: it calls it a barbecue gasket and a grill smoker tape, and the title gives an unreadable width. So measure the width and thickness of your current gasket and the circumference of the rim, and compare them with the 1/8 inch (0.32 cm) thickness, which is stated, and with the width, which the photos seem to show as half an inch (1.27 cm). If they do not match, do not buy it. The gasket guide says what to look at.

  • How much gasket do I need for a Large?

This is an estimate, not a listing figure: the rim of a Large, with a 46 cm grate, is about 1.5 m in circumference. With 2.29 m you cover one surface with room to spare. For base and dome you would need about 3 m in all, so you have to know whether the package holds two 2.29 m rolls or just one. The photos seem to show two and the table speaks of 4 units, but the text settles nothing: ask the seller before ordering.

  • Does it take kamado temperatures?

We do not know: the listing publishes no maximum temperature and we will not invent one. The table gives the material as acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, the name of a plastic, which does not tell us how it behaves in heat. The gasket sits at the edge of the ceramic, and at pizza temperatures, close to 400 °C in a kamado, any gasket is punished. In long, low cooks it will have an easier time, but that is our reasoning, not a manufacturer's figure.

  • How does it differ from the BBQ Future kit in the catalogue?

They are two different gambles. The BBQ Future kit is glass-fibre mesh, is presented as universal for kamados and costs a good deal more. This Boao is a cheap self-adhesive tape of unclear material with no published maximum temperature. If you want to spend little and accept the risk, take the Boao; if you would rather have a material that says what it is, take the BBQ Future kit. You do not buy them together, you choose one.
