Premium German briquettes from the ProFagus "Grillis" line — 100% beech. Only the 2.5kg pack is on Amazon.es (Germany gets 10kg). Very long burn time, clean white ash. Designed for medium cooks in a small or mid-sized kamado.
ProFagus has produced briquettes since 1933 in Bodenfelde, Lower Saxony, and is one of the few European makers pressing with natural lignin alone. The "Grillis" line (2.5kg) is the only one that reaches Amazon Spain regularly — the 10kg professional format stays exclusive to German distribution. The briquette is a hollow cylinder that helps chimney-starter airflow and lights in 15 minutes with no grey smoke. Flat 110-130°C across the load.
Honest note: we wanted the 10kg sack but only 2.5kg is on Amazon.es. Even so, the briquette excels in small kamados.
Pros
- PEFC European beech, no starch or paraffin
- Clean light, no white smoke, in 15 minutes
- Flat 110-130°C across the load
- Clean white ash, low residue percentage
Cons
- Only 2.5kg — the 10kg professional format isn't on Amazon.es
- Briquettes leave more ash than lump (8-10% vs ~3%)
For you if…
For small or mid-sized kamado on medium cooks (4-5h). For anyone valuing briquette quality over volume per euro.
Not for you if…
If you smoke 14h briskets or run an XL kamado — 2.5kg is too little; combine with another briquette or lump.

FAQ
What wood are ProFagus Grillis briquettes made from?
100% beech. ProFagus is a specialist German maker and the Grillis line is pressed only from beech charcoal, with no cheap binders. Beech gives a stable ember and a clean, neutral flavour that does not mask the meat, ideal for direct grilling and medium cooks in a kamado.
Why is the pack 2.5 kg and not 10 kg?
On Amazon.es ProFagus Grillis is only sold in the 2.5 kg size; the larger 10 kg pack exists in Germany but not in Spain. The 2.5 kg bag is convenient for occasional sessions and for trying beech without committing to a bulky storage format.
How much ash do Grillis briquettes leave and how do I clean the kamado?
Grillis have a long burn time and leave a clean white ash, a sign of well-carbonised charcoal with few impurities. Because there is little ash the kamado stays clean between uses; just rake the residue from the base with an ash tool before the next light-up.
Are Grillis good for low and slow or only for direct grilling?
They work very well for medium cooks and direct grilling, their natural ground thanks to the long burn time and stable beech ember. For a very long low and slow the 2.5 kg pack can run short in a large kamado; keep extra charcoal handy or mix with lump.
