FAQ
How many hours does a 10kg Big K bag last?
Direct grilling at 200-250°C, a bag gives 6-8 sessions of 1-2 hours. Kamado indirect at 110-130°C, a basket load runs 3-4 hours — quite a bit less than premium quebracho. If you smoke 14h briskets, this is not your best pick; for weekly burgers, short ribs and veg, it more than holds up.
What smoke flavour does it add?
Very mild — Big K is a European hardwood blend (beech, oak, birch) with no dominant note. Gives a "clean" background smoke that does not compete with marinades or added chunks. If you crave intense Texas-BBQ smoke, you will need to add specific chunks (pecan, mesquite, hickory).
Does it suit all kamados?
Yes, no issue — piece size is medium (3-8cm) and drops well into any basket from a BGE Mini to a Big Joe XL. The format catch is variability: some lots arrive with a lot of "fines" (dust and tiny pieces) you have to sift out before loading, especially if your kamado relies heavily on airflow.
Is the FSC certification real or just marketing?
Real verifiable FSC — Big K is a UK company with annual Forest Stewardship Council audits. Wood comes from managed European forests (mostly Poland and Latvia). It is not greenwash, but the FSC chain-of-custody tracks sustainability, not burn time.
