The long tongs we would recommend to anyone. 40cm keeps you away from kamado heat, the Good Grips handle never slips with grease and stainless tips grip everything from a bacon strip to a 3kg brisket.

Spring-loaded stainless steel, polypropylene-cored silicone handle and a side-lock mechanism to store closed. Dishwasher-safe. The 40cm length is the kamado sweet spot: short enough for the sink, long enough to keep you safe from the coals.

Editor's verdict

The tongs every kamado should ship with.

FAQ

  • Does the handle get hot when used on the kamado?

No, under normal use. The silicone handle insulates up to 230°C of brief contact; the 40cm length keeps you well off the coals. What does heat up is the metal tip if you rest it on the grate for 30 seconds. Habit: lift the tong after grabbing the piece, do not let it sit on the heat.

  • Dishwasher safe?

Yes, OXO certifies them dishwasher-safe. In practice the silicone holds up fine, but the side-lock spring loosens over time. Hand-washing adds 2-3 years to their life. No special detergent, no fuss — these are tools, not cutlery.

  • Do the tips hold something heavy like a brisket?

Up to 3 kg, no problem. Above that (a 5 kg brisket, a whole shoulder) use two tongs or a board with two grips. The spring tension is not rated for more. Moving a 5+ kg cut is a job for a wide spatula or a tray, not tongs.

  • Are there longer versions for big kamados?

OXO also sells 30 and 23 cm but nothing longer than 40. For extra-large kamados (BGE XL, Big Joe III) some cooks use 50cm industrial BBQ tongs, but precision suffers. Reality: 40 cm is the sweet spot even for big kamados. More than that and small pieces become awkward.
