The piece we recommend most for firing a kamado: 19 cm of charcoal that lights evenly in 15 minutes, without a drop of chemical fluid. Load it, light a cube underneath, wait and pour in glowing charcoal. Clean, reliable and forever.
If you buy only one lighting accessory, make it this. Kamado ceramic is especially sensitive to lighter fluid — it tastes of kerosene for several cooks. The chimney solves the problem at the root: rising air that lights charcoal clean and even. The 19 cm covers a Classic load in a single round, and the steel build lasts years. It's the foundation of a properly done start.
Our pick: lights the kamado clean, with no chemicals to ruin the ceramic's flavour. 19 cm for a Classic in one round. Essential.
Pros
- Chemical-free lighting — protects the ceramic's flavour
- 19 cm diameter: a Classic load in a single round
- Even glowing charcoal in about 15 minutes
- Ergonomic soft-touch handle, controlled pour
- Steel build that lasts for years
Cons
- The Amazon buybox price fluctuates depending on the reseller
- Needs paper or a firelighter cube (not included)
Who it's for
For every owner of a Classic, Big or charcoal grill who wants a clean, even, chemical-free light every cook.
Not for
If your kamado is very small (Joe Jr, MiniMax) and you only do minimal loads, the small version is enough and stores better.

Goes well with

Kamado Joe Big Block XL lump charcoal 9.1 kg
To fill the large cylinder in one go, a bag of XL lump like the Kamado Joe Big Block delivers plenty.
€65

Rapicca XL Barbecue Gloves 43 cm
The large cylinder radiates a lot of heat; 43 cm gloves protect the forearm when tipping the embers.

FAQ
How much charcoal does the standard Rapidfire chimney light?
The standard 7429 lights a full cylinder, enough for a 57 cm grill or a Classic/Large kamado in one go, ready in about 15-20 minutes. If you only cook for two or have a Joe Jr, the Small version avoids lighting excess charcoal. Works with lump and briquettes alike.
Is a chimney or a Looftlighter better?
The chimney is mechanical, no electricity or socket, and lights a lot of charcoal at once: ideal if you cook far from an outlet. The Looftlighter is faster to start a localized spot and you skip transferring embers, but it needs mains power (or battery on the Air model). Many people own both: chimney for big cooks, Looftlighter for quick starts.
Do I need gloves to use it?
Yes, strongly recommended: although the handle is insulating plastic, the cylinder radiates a lot of heat and the tipping moment is where the risk is. Long gloves like the 43 cm Rapicca cover the forearm too. Always tip onto the kamado basket or fuel tray, never onto dry grass.
