Do I need it if my Kamado Joe Classic III already ships with a basket?
Skip it — the Classic III ships with the split firebasket system from the factory. This Onlyfire targets the BGE Large (no basket included) or replaces the Classic II original if it has burnt through or warped. Check what came with your model before ordering.
Does it actually improve airflow or is it marketing?
Real and measurable. Without a basket, charcoal sits on the fire grate and ash piles up blocking the holes — airflow drops and so does peak temperature. With the basket, vertical clearance keeps oxygen moving and 350°C dome temp comes easier. The gap is most obvious on kamados over a year old.
Can I extinguish the coals and reuse them in another cook?
Yes, one of the big wins. Shut both vents fully, the kamado chokes, the coals snuff without burning out, and next day the whole basket is ready to relight. Without a basket the process is messier because you have to separate coals from ash by hand. With it, lift, shake ash by gravity, drop back in — 30 seconds.
How do I clean the basket of accumulated ash inside?
