Origins and background

Pit Boss is a US brand from the Dansons group, with roots in Alberta (Canada) and founded in 1999. It made its name in North America with its pellet grills and smokers, a category where it goes toe to toe with the big players on performance and price. Its move into ceramic cooking comes from that culture of slow embers and smoking, not from the traditional ceramic-egg world.

What sets it apart

The 24-inch K24 is its flagship ceramic kamado: a generous diameter, thick-walled ceramic and a standard fit-out—stainless-steel grates, spring hinge, wheeled cart—that other brands charge as extras. Its headline argument is putting a 24" format at a price that unsettles the premium tier.

Our assessment

At mikamado we include it for offering a lot of kamado for its price bracket. Based on the specifications, the user community and our own experience cooking on our Big Green Egg Large, the K24 delivers the surface area and ceramic mass you'd expect from a large kamado, with a complete kit out of the box. The honest caveat is support: the warranty and official spares network in Europe sit below Kamado Joe or Big Green Egg, whose accessory ecosystems and after-sales care remain the benchmark. It's a clear case of more hardware for the money in exchange for a less mature brand backing on this side of the Atlantic.

Who it's for

For the enthusiast who wants a large, well-equipped kamado without paying a premium price, especially anyone already drawn to American-style smoking. If official support and accessory availability in Europe are non-negotiable for you, weigh that factor before deciding.
