Origins and background

Landmann is a German manufacturer founded in 1966 and one of the most widespread names in mid-range garden barbecues across Europe. Its range covers gas, charcoal and electric, and for a few years now it has added a small line of ceramic kamados aimed at the home buyer. It is not a pure kamado maker: its strength lies in mass distribution, easy-to-find spares and price.

Speciality

The Kamado Mini at 27 cm is its entry bet into the ceramic format: a compact, light and manageable egg aimed at small terraces, cooks for a few guests, and anyone who wants to discover ceramic embers without the outlay of a specialist brand. It is honest about what it is and isn't: a starter kamado, not a machine for long, high-volume smoking sessions.

Our assessment

At mikamado we select it as an affordable first kamado with the backing of a known brand. Based on the specifications, the user community and our own experience cooking on our Big Green Egg Large, its trump cards are availability, the spares network and a size that is easy to move. On the other hand, a 27 cm diameter limits the usable surface and its thermal inertia is lower than that of a large, thick-walled kamado, so long cooks demand more attention to fuel. Against a Big Green Egg or a Kamado Joe it doesn't compete on ceramic mass or accessory ecosystem, but nor does it try to.

Who it's for

For anyone looking to get into ceramic cooking with little space and a modest budget, for balconies and couples, and for the buyer who values finding replacement parts without fuss. If your plan is to smoke large cuts every weekend, it's worth looking at a bigger diameter.
