Origins

Jealous Devil is an American brand founded in 2014 that built a solid reputation in the grilling community around a single, sharply defined product: 100% Paraguayan white quebracho lump charcoal. Quebracho is one of the densest hardwoods in the Americas, and the brand has made it its signature, with a clear following among smoking enthusiasts in the United States and, increasingly, across Europe.

What sets it apart

Its flagship is the 15.8 kg white quebracho lump. On paper and by the community's accumulated experience, this charcoal stands out for very high density, which translates into long burn time, minimal sparking and ash, and the ability to reach very high temperatures — well suited to both long low-and-slow smokes and hot searing. It's a pure charcoal with no binders or accelerants, and a clean aroma that doesn't interfere with the flavour of the meat.

Our take

At mikamado we recommend it as a high-end charcoal for kamados and smokers. Based on the specifications, the reputation among the user community, and our own experience cooking on our Big Green Egg Large, a dense lump like quebracho is exactly what performs well in the sealed chamber of a kamado: few refuels, steady control and easy cleaning.
