Campingaz

Origins and heritage

Campingaz is a French brand founded in Lyon in 1949, first known for the butane cartridges and cylinders that popularised camp cooking across Europe. From there the catalogue grew to cover gas and charcoal barbecues, portable stoves, griddles and a broad range of outdoor accessories. Today it belongs to the American group Newell Brands, alongside Coleman.

The product we carry

At mikamado we've picked its gas torch for lighting charcoal, one of those tools that make life easier for anyone cooking over coals. Unlike firelighter cubes or lighter fluid, a gas torch fires up charcoal or briquettes quickly and leaves no taste or smell in the food — especially valuable when the goal is a clean bed of embers inside a kamado.

Our take

We include it because ignition is a detail that quietly shapes outdoor cooking. Based on the specs and on our own experience cooking on our Big Green Egg Large, a direct torch avoids the chemical residue of lighter fluids and shortens the wait until the coals are ready. The honest caveat: it's a tool that works with gas and an open flame, so it should be used sensibly and outdoors. For the impatient griller after a clean, reliable light, it does the job comfortably.
