Lined leather welding glove that runs up the forearm. It's the classic for anyone lighting a chimney starter, moving logs or emptying hot ash: physical protection from leather thickness, not technical fabric.

If your thing is handling raw fire —dumping a chimney starter, adding logs, emptying the kamado ash pan while still warm— this is your glove. Thick leather with cotton lining and a long cuff covering much of the forearm. Protection comes from leather thickness, so it shields against sparks, the odd ember and radiant heat far better than thin fabric. The trade-off is dexterity: don't expect to pinch a slice or close a grate precisely. Leather dries out over time under dry heat; extend its life by occasionally rubbing in a little oil or leather grease. Honestly it's crude and cheap, but for the dirty fire work it more than does the job and lasts for years.

FAQ

  • Are they good for flipping meat precisely?

Not really. Thick leather gives little dexterity. For fine touch use a knitted glove; these are for raw fire work.

  • Why do they stiffen over time?

Dry heat dries the leather. Rubbing in oil or leather grease now and then restores flexibility and extends life.

  • Can they grab a red-hot grate?

Only for a few seconds. They shield against sparks and radiant heat, but prolonged direct contact with red-hot metal eventually transfers.
